Arrived in the final of the Champions League, after a difficult course, Wydad Casablanca faced, this Monday evening, the Egyptian giant Al Ahly, who was aiming for the first series of three Champions Leagues in a row in history. The Moroccan club finally won.

On the roof of Africa, Wydad AC won its third Champions League this Monday, May 30. The Casablanca club had already won the prestigious trophy in 1992 and 2017. This is also the second time that Wydad has won against Al Ahly (2-0).

The Egyptian club is the most successful in Africa, in all competitions. Al Ahly is also the champion of the last two editions of the Champions League in 2020 and 2021, winning against Zamalek and Kaizer Chiefs respectively.

This May 30 is the second time in a row that the African Champions League final is being played in Casablanca. The Moroccan spectators therefore attended, at home, this consecration of Wydad, and of its young striker Zouhair El Moutaraji, author of the two goals of the match in the 15th and 48th minutes.

It was also, above all, a big game for the defense of Wydad. Defender Achraf Dari won in front of the fiery Cairoise attack. A strategy put in place by coach Walid Regragui, and hailed by the match analysts.

And 3 Champions Leagues for Wydad AC

Another phenomenal performance, that of the public of Wydad AC. Around 35 supporters at the Mohammed V stadium, in an electric atmosphere, were present to support the native club of "the City".

No 11th Champions League for Al Ahly, therefore, who leaves disappointed with the Moroccan economic capital. The South African coach of Al Ahly, Pitso Mosimane, had participated in the last two consecrations of the Egyptian giant, also holder of the last two CAF Super Cups.

For sports journalist Saddick Adams, “Wydad did what was important. Al Ahly played the game, and Wydad won the game”.

Wydad AC therefore joins its rival, Raja CA, in fifth place among African clubs having won the most Champions Leagues. Al Ahly remains in first place with 10 trophies, followed by TP Mazembe and Zamalek (5), then by Espérance de Tunis (4).

The Algerian club ES SĂ©tif, eliminated in the semi-final by Al Ahly, was looking, like Wydad, for its 3rd Champions League. But the big surprise of this edition will undoubtedly remain the Angolan club Petro Luanda, eliminated in the semi-finals.
