Just elected president of Daring Club Motema Pembe (DCMP), Paul Kasembele must raise the bar to hope for a season full of his players, both in the league and in the CAF Cup.
In the Democratic Republic of Congo, Daring Club Motema Pembe's (DCMP) season has been mixed. The Kinshasa club finished in seventh place, 22 points behind leaders TP Mazembe. Far from the ambitions displayed three years ago. The supporters then urged the president of Vidiye Tshimanga to win the Linafoot D1. A bitter failure for the one who is now special adviser in charge of strategic issues within the presidency of the DRC.
The Kinshasa club has however obtained a consolation prize: the Congo Cup, for the second consecutive season. This will allow the DCMP to play the African Football Confederation Cup (CAF). But a new wind is blowing through the corridors of the DCMP.
Because in recent months, Paul Kasembele has succeeded Vidiye Tshimanga as president of the club. Change of era for new ambitions? Before aiming high, the new boss of Motema Pembea has a lot to do to restore order in the DCMP house. Because, if on the ground, the results were mixed for the green and white, the situation of the club internally, it was catastrophic. The club has been plagued by many divisions in recent years.
Finances to straighten out
Kasembele's first mission was to resolve the club's financial crisis. Objective: to put the DCMP afloat so that it regains a record worthy of its history - the club won the African Cup Winners' Cup in 1994.
On the sporting side, Paul Kasembele began the work: on the bench, he installed the former coach of Congo-Brazzaville, Barthélémy Ngatsono. “I am here to bring the president to succeed in his project. It's not easy”, admits the new coach who understands that “Daring ended the season badly. Thank goodness the president has arrived to put some order and make the team turn professional”.
Because to chain the successes on the lawns, the DCMP must first of all restructure. To do this, he relies on a president who knows the house well. “I am very happy to be back with my family again. We need to get to work right away. What is certain is that the task will be difficult”, assures the new boss of the club who wants to “save the team”.
Kasembele certainly has some pressure on his shoulders. But above all, he has the confidence of his board: he was unanimously elected president by the members of the board. Suffice to say that the season started well for him.
