Pan-Africanist activist Nathalie Yamb has been banned from entering French territory since January. Paris criticizes him in particular for his anti-French and pro-Russian positions.
Criticizing France's African policy can have surprising repercussions. An order from the French Minister of the Interior targets activist Nathalie Yamb, who presents herself on Twitter as "resolutely committed to an Africa free from guardianship". Dated January 12, the content of this decree was sent to the Swiss-Cameroonian by registered mail on October 14. It is stipulated that the activist is now prohibited from entering and staying on French territory. At RFI, a source familiar with the matter affirms that the French Ministry of the Interior wanted to "ensure that she is well informed that she is subject to this measure for incitement to hatred and violence".
#franceAfrica For those who still doubted it, yesterday proved to us the explicitly racist and institutionalized official ideology of #macron.
You are white you can criticize its international/African policy, you are black you have the obligation to shut up- 𝓐𝓓𝓘𝓜𝓑𝓞𝓛𝓐 (@Adimbola) October 16, 2022
According to the text of the decree, Nathalie Yamb is more exactly reproached for the "recurrent diatribes that she utters against France and its authorities and in which she endorses, even encourages, the use of violence against the symbols of the French presence in Africa", but also "virulent remarks with regard to the French positions on the African continent likely to favor the entryism of foreign powers hostile to France on the African continent and to fuel the development of a popular anti-French resentment in Africa, but also among the African diasporas in France”. A final explanation that directly targets Russia.
Virulent remarks against France
France also considers that, "in view of the deep hatred it harbors towards France, which it expresses very regularly through virulent remarks disseminated and relayed via online public communication services which benefit from a large audience, it is to be feared that his presence in France will cause serious disturbances to public order".
And the decree to recall the course of Nathalie Yamb. His closeness to the regime of former Ivorian President Laurent Gbagbo displeases Paris, which apparently did not really digest the activist's remarks during the Russia-Africa summit in Sochi in October 2019.
"France still considers the continent as its property"
“After slavery, colonization, pseudo-independence, we were only recognized the right to be free, but only within the French enclosure. Francophone Africa is still today in October 2019, under the control of France. France still considers the continent as its property,” said Nathalie Yamb, who is also accused of being close to the Central African presidency, which turned to Russia rather than Paris.
Among the fervent opponents of the activist, we find an elected representative of the French Republic, the deputy Thomas Gassilloud. Chairman of the Defense Committee of the National Assembly, he is also a member of the Renaissance group and therefore of the party of the same name, whose honorary president is none other than Emmanuel Macron.
Gassilloud believes that "Nathalie Yamb, very active on the networks, is a relay of Russian propaganda on the African continent and who participates in the dissemination of false information, undoubtedly for personal interests, by making very virulent remarks against France in Africa, including by encouraging the use of violence”.
