Morocco would like to launch into the production of Israeli military drones

Le Maroc voudrait se lancer dans la production de drones militaires israéliens

Morocco, in cooperation with Israel, is embarking on the local production of military drones. This collaboration raises questions and draws attention to recent developments in this sector.

BlueBird Aero Systems, an Israeli company specializing in drones, plans to launch an unmanned aircraft (ASP) production unit in Morocco. This initiative, announced by the company's CEO, Ronen Nadir, marks a new stage in cooperation between the two countries. Although details on the location and timing of this installation remain to be clarified, this progress demonstrates the commitment of both parties to this project.

This approach is not unprecedented, since in 2023, Elbit Systems, another Israeli company, had also expressed interest in developing drones in Morocco. These initiatives are part of Morocco's desire to develop a national military industry, in accordance with the declarations of the Minister of Defense in 2023.

Founded in 2002, BlueBird Aero Systems is recognized for its high-tech drones used primarily for reconnaissance and intelligence missions. The company has already established production sites outside Israel, including in India. Its expertise and experience make it a strategic partner for Morocco in this area.

This cooperation opens new perspectives for Morocco as a producer and exporter of military drones. With the planned acquisition of SpyX drones, Morocco is attempting to strengthen its defensive capabilities and its positioning against its Algerian neighbor.

The establishment of a BlueBird subsidiary in Morocco is made possible thanks to a law adopted in 2021 authorizing joint ventures in the defense industry. This initiative is part of a broader framework agreement between Morocco and Israel, signed in November 2021, providing for enhanced military and security cooperation.

The collaboration between Morocco and BlueBird Aero Systems in the field of military drones represents an important step in the development of Morocco's defense industry. This initiative also highlights the diplomatic rapprochement between Morocco and Israel, initiated within the framework of the Abraham Accords and supported by the United States, undermined by Israel's ongoing genocide in Gaza.
