Guinea Bissau, a president without political consistency

Guinee Bissau , un président sans consistance politique

Guinea-Bissau President Umaro Sissoco Embalo has rejected any possibility of extradition of former Central African President François Bozizé, a refugee in Guinea-Bissau since March 2023.

The President of Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embalo, has put an end to speculation regarding a possible extradition of the former Central African president, François Bozizé, affirming that no agreement has been concluded to this effect between the Central African Republic and the Guinea-Bissau. Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday (May 7) before leaving for Moscow, Embalo said categorically: “We do not extradite exiles. Moreover, there is no agreement between our two countries in this sense. »

Bozizé's presence in Guinea-Bissau has raised questions, particularly because of the international arrest warrant issued against him by the Special Criminal Court for alleged crimes against humanity. However, Embalo stressed that the decision not to extradite Bozizé was motivated by humanitarian and political considerations.

Embalo explained that Bozizé's reception in Guinea-Bissau came with strict conditions, including a ban on getting involved in political activities or destabilizing his country of origin. He also insisted on the good relations between Guinea-Bissau and the Central African Republic, specifying that these relations would not be affected by the presence of Bozizé on Guinea-Bissau territory.

In conclusion, Embalo reaffirmed his position by clearly emphasizing: “I am not going to extradite Bozizé, I want that to be clear. »
