In a magnificent report, DJ Snake looks back on his last trip to Oran, on the occasion of the 2022 Mediterranean Games. A new love letter to Algeria, which highlights the culture of "the radiant".
Definitely, DJ Snake is making a real return to basics, since the release of "Disco Maghreb". Whether, in his piece, the Franco-Algerian artist wrote a love letter to his people, he also shows that he puts the means.
On the occasion of the 2022 Mediterranean Games (JM Oran 2022), DJ Snake extended his stay in the city in western Algeria. And in an after-film published on his YouTube channel and his social networks, the DJ-composer showed not only his closeness to his audience, but also his love of Oran social and musical culture.
It should be remembered that the city of Oran is a real meeting place for Mediterranean civilisations. Embellished in addition by the preparations for the JM, it contrasts with the Western imagination of what "Algeria 2022" is. The sports delegations of the 26 countries participating in WYD Oran 2022 discovered this well during their recent stay.
But it's not just about the city, it's also about its people. The same inhabitants who saw the birth of raï, the Algerian national popular music, and certainly the one that best expresses the past, the present and the dreams of the Maghreb populations as a whole.
DJ Snake in Oran: only love
All this, and much more: DJ Snake toured Oran, on the back of the success of his "Disco Maghreb" clip, which earned him the opening of JM Oran 2022 and which especially has him a lot of love for from the Algerian public.
The artist opens the recap of his last stay in Oran with two of the oldest pieces by the native of the city, the star of raï, Cheb Khaled. In this case "El ghorba", which tells the pain of moving away from the country, and the famous "Rouhi ya Wahrane", which speaks precisely of the beauty of Oran.
The video also shows DJ Snake tasting a couscous prepared by another raï legend, Halima Mazzi, alias Cheba Zahouania. If we add to this the reception of the public, in front of the "Disco Maghreb" shop which had inspired his piece dedicated to Algeria, with the discovery of a portrait of the deceased "Rossignol du raï" Cheb Hasni, DJ Snake multiplies the references musical.
Then, in a one-on-one with the owner of "Disco Maghreb", Boualem Benhaoua, the latter thanks DJ Snake for his eponymous track. “You paid us a great tribute, and that is priceless,” explained the godfather of raï oranais.
However, there is no doubt that the most significant thing for DJ Snake has been meeting his audience, to whom he has always been very close. “I don't have a community manager for social networks, I see comments from my audience,” he said in an interview. But, above all, DJ Snake knew how to conquer the hearts of Algerians and, voluntarily or not, he stands as one of the biggest promoters of the North African country abroad.
